JOIN THE HERD

Join the Herd

Thank you for your interest in joining the Herding Association of Central New York (HACNY). Joining HACNY is a multiple step process that goes as follows:

  1. Attend a HACNY meeting as a guest. This is to serve as a meet and greet. It’s a chance for you to get to know a little more about our club and our club to get to know a little more about you to make sure it’s a good fit for everyone.
  2. Submit a completed Membership Application which has two signatures of current HACNY members willing to sponsor you. In addition to the Membership Application, the membership fee must also be submitted at this time. It is $35 for a Regular Membership with voting privileges, $30 for an Associate Membership with no voting privileges and a Junior Membership (age 18 and under) is free with no voting privileges.
  3. Once we receive the three items above (completed application, two sponsors and membership fee) your membership application will be submitted to our membership for review. If there are any questions or concerns raised during this review period you will be contacted privately to discuss. Applicants for membership who have been rejected by the club may not reapply within six months after such rejection; the membership application and dues shall not be refunded in the case of denial of membership.
  4. If no concerns are raised, you will be invited to come to the next membership meeting where the current members will vote on granting you membership. Attendance is required at the meeting at which your membership is voted on.

Please note, the process for an Associate Membership does not require the applicant to attend an initial meeting, however the Associate Member applicant must submit an application with two regular/household endorsements and associate dues of $30. The process of review and approval shall be the same for Associate Members, however their participation is not necessary at the meeting where the vote will take place.

There may be a few months between membership meetings so the entire process can take a while. If you have any questions about the process or wondering when the next meeting is, please feel free to reach out to HACNY Secretary.

What is the difference between a Regular and Associate Membership?

Regular members are generally those that live close to the Syracuse, NY area. Regular members are expected to be hands-on members which regularly attend meetings and help with the day-to-day running of the club. Regular members hold voting privileges and are eligible to run for office as well as receiving year-end awards. You need to attend two membership meetings before being voted in as a regular member.

Regular member benefits include:

Access to club membership meetings
Discounted rates on herding clinics organized by HACNY
Access to the club library which houses books and DVDs on all things herding
Voting privileges at club meetings on issues which steer the direction of the club
Eligible to run for club officer and director positionsEligible for year-end awards

Associate Member:
Associate members are generally those that live outside of the Syracuse, NY area but still wish to support the club and remain involved from a distance. The Associate membership is a wonderful way to remain informed on upcoming clinics and trials. Associate members do not hold voting privileges and are not eligible to run for office or receive year-end awards. You do not need to attend a meeting in order to be voted in as an associate member.
